Live Donor Toolkit: Resources for Those Considering Live Donation

National Living Donor Assistance Center

What is the NLDAC?

The National Living Donor Assistance Center (NLDAC) is a government-funded program that gives financial aid to eligible living donors for their travel costs to the transplant center. Eligible donors get an American Express pre-paid card to pay for transportation, food, and lodging up to a total of $6,000. NLDAC will also pay for up to 2 trips for people who support the donor.

Who is eligible for the NLDAC?

As a donor, you are eligible for aid if the intended recipient’s annual income is 300% or lower of the federal poverty guidelines (FPG).  If the intended recipient’s household has an income more than 300% of the FPG, you can ask for a waiver for financial hardship. How do I apply?

The recipient and donor will have to:

  1. Complete and sign a NLDAC application worksheet and confirmation form
  2. Gather pay stubs, tax returns, or other documents to show your household income
  3. Give these documents to the transplant professional at the transplant center, and they will file the application to NLDAC for the donor
